New ProductJan 23, 2025
Yaskawa Electric Corporation (Head Office: Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, Japan; Representative Director, President: Masahiro Ogawa) has launched sales of two new product lineups for the AC servo drive Σ-X (sigma ten) series . The Advanced Safety Modules (ASM-X), which mounts on the side of the SERVOPACK, and servo motors with functional safety are compatible with various functional safety requirements, including CE marking machinery directives*.
SERVOPACK with mounted Advanced Safety Module
Servo motor with functional safety
In 1992, we were the first in the industry to bring an all-digital servo to market. The AC servo drive Σ series has been acclaimed by customers for its high performance, advanced functionality, and compact design. The Σ series is always evolving to meet changing customer needs, and in March 2021, we launched the Σ-X series, which offers even better performance and functionality, and also includes functions to make use of sensing data.
In recent years, legal regulations governing the functional safety of equipment in general have become more strict, particularly in Europe and the United States. Accordingly, servo motors must also be compliant with functional safety standards. To address this need, we have added two new product lineups to the Σ-X series. These are the servo motors with functional safety and the Advanced Safety Module (ASM-X) that mounts on the side of the SERVOPACK.
By combine these two products, it is possible to build safety systems that are compliant with CE marking machinery directives. As well, by building systems with safety fieldbuses, wiring can be reduced throughout the entire system.
The Advanced Safety Module (ASM-X) can be mounted on the ∑-XS SERVOPACK and combined with servo motors with functional safety to build safety systems.
① Raises safety levels
The Advanced Safety Module (ASM-X) includes functions to monitor motor position, speed, and acceleration. When combined with servo motors with functional safety, this makes it possible to build SIL3 or PLe (Category 3) safety correlated systems.
② Supports a broad range of safety functions
The products support 11 kinds of safety functions based on EN 61800-5-2 standards that pertain to functional safety conditions for adjustable speed electrical power drive systems. Of these, up to 10 can be run simultaneously.
③ Safety fieldbus compatibility for reduced system wiring
As well as digital I/O signals, the products are compatible with FSoE (Safety over EtherCAT) safety fieldbuses. Building safety-correlated systems with safety fieldbuses can reduce wiring throughout the entire system.
There are three types of Advanced Safety Module and three models of servo motors with functional safety.
