NewsSep 21, 2012

YASKAWA Electric Corporation (President: Junji Tsuda) has decided to acquire the business operations of Wermac Electric (1994) Ltd., a system integrator based in Alberta, Canada. This move will give YASKAWA a stronger position in western Canada, where strong growth is foreseen in the oil and gas industry. The operations of Wermac Electric will become part of YASKAWA Motoman Canada, Ltd., a subsidiary of YASKAWA America, Inc., which is the regional headquarters for the Americas.

1. Purpose of acquisition

With the world’s largest reserves of oil sand, Canada ranks among the most important locations for the oil industry in the Americas along with the southern United States, Colombia and Brazil. In Canada, there is a particularly high concentration of petroleum operations in the western provinces of Alberta and British Columbia.
Wermac Electric is a system integrator based in Alberta, Canada that sells system products incorporating Yaskawa’s AC drives to companies in the oil industry of western Canada.
